Age 8, restricted from going out forlorn,
"You're too small", was the given reason;
Age 18, she was insisted to take a companion,
"You're a big girl", was now the justification;
Too small or too big,when was she to go out alone?
Until now, she was forewarn,
"This won't be your home henceforth";
In the wake of marraige, she was told ,
"This isn't the home of your brood";
That home or this home, where did she actually belong?
Hitherto, she was filled in,
"Not too blonde and not too tan, was said to be divine";
Now she knew it's unwritten,
"Small waist and big breast is considered to be perfection";
Too fat or too slim, wasn't she still sublime?
Following her body went under violation,
"What you wore was mere provocation";
Was wearing a diaper fault of the little one,
when they say,"It's because what she had on";
Infant or grey, was there no bigotry?
........
Meanings:
Forlorn- alone Blonde and tan- fair and dark Forewarn- told.
Grey- old lady Brood- born family. Had on- wore
Hitherto- until now Bigotry- prejudice
The life of a girl isn't easy. Her hardships began from the moment she's born. The poem depicts the life of women with no age discrimination. Wherein a number of events occurs in their life. Like how she was not able to go out as a child, what society says an ideal girl should look like, how she was disowned after marriage, and how the monsters raped her with no prejudice if she was a toddler or and old lady...
Here, "..." this means there's no start or end to it.
"Storms make trees take deeper roots."
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, females have to struggle at least 10 times more to achieve their dreams than males coz of the physical, psychological,social,economic and cultural obstacles this patriarchal society puts in front of them which i may never understand completely as a maleπ .But i know education and positive awareness about their issues r leading towards more smart, strong and independent females in the society than ever before. Future is bright and promising for gender equality π.
